This program provides apartment type accommodation to low and moderate-income seniors who are functionally independent with or without the assistance of existing community based services. A tenant's rent, which includes heat, water and sewer expenses, is based on 30 percent of a household's adjusted income. The tenant is responsible for electricity, telephone and cable television, as well as any additional services they may request i.e. parking.
The province owns all of the apartment buildings under this program, and any operating deficits are fully funded by the province through an annual budget review process. Management and tenant selection are delegated to the local housing operators.
Senior citizens whose income falls below local limits (refer to 2022 Core Need Income Thresholds document) and who are functionally independent, with or without the help of existing community based services are eligible. Applicants are prioritized on the basis of need.
